Poker Chip Mockup: Check Your Design Before You Order

A mockup is where a good-looking idea meets real chip scale. Use one to spot crowded type, weak contrast, and unclear values before production.

Most design problems are not obvious when a chip is enlarged on a laptop. A mockup makes you decide what a player needs to see first.

What a useful poker chip mockup shows

A useful mockup answers four questions: what is the chip for, what does it represent, what value does it carry, and can a player identify it quickly?

Start with the centre graphic. Then add the denomination if the set needs one. Finally, use ring text for a room name, event, or short phrase. If all three elements compete at the same size, remove something.

Test the layout at real scale

Poker chips are about 39mm across. Fine details that look elegant on a monitor can become noise in a stack. Zoom out, compare two denominations side by side, and ask whether you could tell them apart from the other end of the table.

The custom chip artwork guide has more detail on safe files and practical layouts.

Use Label Studio as a starting brief

With Label Studio, you can build a free mockup, arrange text and shapes, preview the layout on a chip body, and bring it into your quote. It is particularly useful when you know the mood and the key wording but do not have a finished Illustrator file.

You can also upload your own print-ready art or choose the full design service. These are separate paths. A Label Studio mockup is helpful for communicating an idea, but it does not replace the production proof.

Keep material in the decision

Clay uses a printed inlay and is the best fit for delicate crests and small type. Ceramic uses direct-to-chip print, which works well for bold artwork and has no separate paper inlay. Both use the same custom face area, so do not squeeze more detail into one simply because it is ceramic.

Compare the materials in ceramic versus clay poker chips, then review the proof with the actual material in mind.

Move from mockup to order

Use the mockup to settle the hierarchy, not to make the face busy. Once the design reads clearly and you know the quantity, get an instant quote. You will still receive a proof before production, which is the final place to check the details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers for reviewing a custom chip mockup.

A poker chip mockup is a visual preview of your artwork on a chip face. It helps you judge hierarchy, spacing, colour, and what the design will feel like at actual size.

Yes. Poker Foundry’s Label Studio lets you create a free layout, preview it on a clay or ceramic chip body, and carry it into a quote.

No. A mockup communicates your layout intent. Production artwork is still checked and a proof is supplied before manufacturing.

Check spelling, denomination size, contrast, logo placement, and whether adjacent values are easy to distinguish. Review it at chip scale, not only enlarged on screen.
